How to Avoid Online Work at Home Scams

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Not all work at home sites are scams, but most are....................

Steps

  1. Do your research. Google the company(s) you want to work for and then do some research about the company to make sure they're not a "fly by night". At the very least, the company should have a listed telephone number and be reachable during normal business hours.
  2. Educate yourself. What kinds of jobs and industries really use home workers? With a little bit of research, you will quickly learn for example, that working at home is common in the medical transcription industry, but there's no such job as "envelope stuffing."
  3. Avoid "start up fees": Real work at home jobs are like any other jobs, except they are performed in home offices. You don't have to pay a fee to work at Starbucks or Hewlett Packard. Likewise, legitimate work-at-home job offers do not require registration fees or payment for "instructions".
  4. Don't expect a money back guarantee to protect you: Everybody is trying to sell you a get rich quick scheme and 99% of them are scams. Talk is cheap. If someone is out to scam you, giving your money back is not in the plan.
  5. Understand that working at home does not require a "program" or a "system". As with any other employment, you either have the required job skills or you don't. If you need skills to get a job, visit the nearest college, vocational school, or technical school.
  6. Search for work at home jobs in legitimate sources: Never Google "work at home". All you'll get are scams in return. Instead, try well-established job boards such as Net-Temps.com or authoritative books like The Work-at-Home Sourcebook.
  7. Use your head. If it were really possible to earn $1,000 a week assembling products at home, wouldn't everybody be doing it? The old adage still holds true: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Tips

  • Do your homework
  • Avoid start up fees
  • Don't get discouraged, it takes time to find a good work-at-home job

Warnings
